As the employer of choice, HouseWorks can afford to be extremely selective. Currently, we are only hiring 15% of those who apply for employment as home care associates.
Above all, HouseWorks is committed to bringing the best associates to our customers' homes. To attract and keep the best, we offer our associates great respect, steady employment, flexible scheduling, choice of assignments, and innovative career development opportunities.
A New Approach to Training Four times a year, HouseWorks invites our associates to participate in a full day of paid training. Simultaneous sessions on a variety of topics are repeated throughout the day allowing each associate to customize his or her schedule and earn several Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in a single day. Training topics have included Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Care, Hospice, Depression Recognition and Suicide Prevention, Positive Communication, First Aid, Diabetes, Fall Prevention, Oxygen Use and many others chosen in response to associate input and customer needs.
In addition to enhancing the responsiveness, flexibility, and breadth of our associate training program, HouseWorks Training Days provide a much-appreciated opportunity for associates to spend a day together, comparing notes and giving each other the peer support that makes such a difference to caregivers who typically work solo in the field.
Commitment to Collaboration Collaboration drives the success and impact of HouseWorks Training Days. Sessions are led by clinicians from a growing list of participating agencies while co-sponsoring organizations host the events at facilities throughout the Boston area. Because HouseWorks is also committed to supporting workforce development throughout the eldercare industry, we invite paraprofessionals from other organizations to attend training days free of charge.
HouseWorks thanks the following organizations for their contributions to the success of Training Days held throughout 2006:
