HouseWorks co-founder Alan Solomont
is a philanthropist, political activist, and healthcare entrepreneur. Throughout his career, he has played a key role in promoting innovation and quality in the delivery of services to an aging population. As founder and CEO of the A.D.S Group, Mr. Solomont helped build a broad and innovative network of post-acute elder care services. Following the sale of the A.D.S Group in 1997, he shifted his focus from facility-based to home-based care and launched HouseWorks with co-founder Andrea Cohen. Mr. Solomont also serves as a Director of Allegiance Hospice, Aveta Inc., and the Boston Private Bank & Trust Company, and is a Managing Member of Angel Healthcare Investors, LLC.
Active for many years in the Democratic Party, Mr. Solomont was chosen by President Clinton and Vice President Gore to serve as National Finance Chair of the Democratic National Committee in 1997. Under his leadership, the DNC raised over $40 million. Mr. Solomont was also a key member of John Kerry's finance team during the 2004 presidential campaign and is presently chairing the New England Steering Committee of Obama for America.
In 2000, Mr. Solomont was named by President Clinton to serve on the Board of Directors of the Corporation for National and Community Service which oversees AmeriCorps, the Senior Service Corps, and Learn & Serve America. Mr. Solomont was reappointed by President Bush in 2007.
In addition to his business and political pursuits, Mr. Solomont is active as a volunteer and contributor to many community institutions and charitable organizations. He is Vice Chairman of Boston Medical Center where he co-chaired the capital campaign to build a new cancer treatment center, and he is the immediate past Chairman of the Board of Hebrew Senior Life, one of the largest non-profit geriatric care providers in the Northeast. He is also a past Chairman of Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston and is he currently a member of the Boards of the JFK Presidential Library, Cradles to Crayons, New Israel Fund, and the Jewish Funds for Justice. Mr. Solomont is a trustee of his alma mater, Tufts University, where he serves on the Board of the Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service and is a Visiting Instructor in the Political Science Department.
Mr. Solomont has been honored by numerous organizations including the Israel Policy Forum, the Arthritis Foundation, the Anti-Defamation League, the Massachusetts Long-Term Care Foundation, the Massachusetts Democratic Party, Jewish Community Housing for the Elderly, the Jewish Funds for Justice, and Rofeh International. In 1994, he received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, and in 2004, he was named Philanthropist of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
