HouseWorks promises quick response, creativity, reliability, flexibility, and the ability to handle the most complex circumstances. Here's what that means to our customers and their families.

When needs are complex
As usual, notice was short and the logistics were complicated. An elderly man was being discharged from the hospital in 48 hours and would need a live-in aide who could manage his feeding tube and take him to outpatient radiation appointments. HouseWorks immediately sent an associate to the hospital to meet with the customer and his family before bringing him home and helping him settle in. Meanwhile, HouseWorks staff arranged for a nurse to provide j-tube training for the HouseWorks associate, picked up the client's medication cassette at the pharmacy, and called in the Visiting Nurses to resume home health services and provide ongoing clinical supervision.

When creativity is required
Perhaps it was the son's mental disabilities or perhaps it was the problem with the home itself. Whatever the reason, no other agency was willing to get involved. The son desperately wanted to bring his mother home from the hospital for the holidays, but the second-floor apartment they had shared for so many years had become unsafe for the elderly woman. Since the home's first-floor apartment was vacant, HouseWorks prepared this space for the mother, adapting it to meet her needs and purchasing the necessary supplies. With the support of a live-in HouseWorks associate and occasional care from a visiting nurse, the older woman now lives in the first-floor apartment while her son continues to live upstairs. It's a solution that works well for them both.

When quick response is essential
The request came in from a family member at 3:30 pm. A woman in hospice care on morphine was being discharged from the hospital that afternoon and would need 24-hour home care. By 5 pm, two HouseWorks associates had arrived at the woman's home where they received medication training from the hospice nurse. The HouseWorks associates then provided continuous bedside care until the elderly woman passed away two days later.
